 Congressman Bennie G. Thompson is the longest-serving African-American elected official in the state of Mississippi.

 

As lead plaintiff in the Ayers case, Congressman Bennie G. Thompson lead the way for an historic $503 million settlement agreement to benefit Alcorn State, Jackson State and Mississippi Valley State Universities.

 

 According to latest Census data, the Second District is home to 711,164 people.

 

 Congressman Bennie G. Thompson is the Ranking (most senior) Democrat on the Homeland Security Committee

 

 The Second Congressional District is the fourth largest congressional district – 13,937 sq. miles - east of the Mississippi River.

 

 Bennie G. Thompson graduated from Jackson State University in 1972, with a Masters Degree in Education Administration.

 

 Bennie G. Thompson was elected to the Hinds County Board of Supervisors in 1980.

In 1968, at age 20, Bennie G. Thompson graduated from Tougaloo College.
From 1973-1979, the Mayor of Bolton was Bennie G. Thompson.
Bennie G. Thompson is now serving his seventh term as the Democratic Congressman.
